John Anthony Cantonese Grill & Dim Sum is a modern Cantonese restaurant, named after the first Chinese man to be naturalized as a British citizen in 1805 and inspired by his journey along the spice routes from the East to the West. In the kitchen, the chefs puts an inimitable spin on Cantonese classics such as homemade dim sum, roasted meats, and live seafood dishes using progressive cooking techniques. John Anthony is also the home to one of Hanoi's first ever Wood Fired Duck Oven, installed to prepare the signature 42-day Roasted Peking Duck.

Who is John Anthony

The concept for the restaurant was inspired by the historical figure of John Anthony, a Chinese native who travelled from East to West as an employee of the East India Company during the Qing Dynasty.
Historically known only by his English nickname, ‘John Anthony' was stationed at the docks of London's first Chinatown, Limehouse, where he acted as an interpreter and caretaker for the Asian traders who had journeyed West with commodities from the Far East. As a result of the role he played in facilitating the flourishing trade between the East and West, John Anthony came to be known as ‘the Father of Limehouse', London's first Chinatown.

Wine Cellar

Our wine library, displayed in an elegant wine case which streches from floor to ceiling, carries a wide variety of wines from vineyards around the world. Each selection has been thoughtfully sourced to provide guests with an elevated experience to accompany their meal at John Anthony.

The Gin Bar

Throughout history, spices have been instrumental in some of humanity’s greatest explorations and, to this day, evoke a sense of adventure.
At our Gin Bar, we serve a variety of customised Gin & Tonics and gin cocktails influenced by spices discovered along the Spice Route. We also serve a gin that has been infused in-house with various botanicals. All drinks in our beverage programme have been created as the perfect compliment to our cuisine. Gin is coarky and cool… The spirit has made a significant comeback recently, inspiring an increasingly popular trend dubbed "ginstronomy," which refers to the art of gin food pairings in order to create a uniquely satisfying gastronomic experience.
